Selektor za dokumentarni film

Rodjen 1925. godine u Krku.

BOGATSTVO ZIVLJENJA

Svi ti brojni filmovi iskazuji i licni stav, rukopis, sklonost i slabost stvaraoca filmova.

Documentary film selector

Born in Krk in 1925. After the WW II, he studied the Slavic languages in Zagreb. Since 1948, professionally working on film in Belgrade. He cooperated with the following prominent directors: Vladimir Pogacic, Radoš Novakovic, Soja Jovanovic, Zivojin Pavlovic, Goran Paskaljevic, Slobodan Šijan... He makes his debut as a director in 1956 with the story "Grumpy" in the omnibus "Little shoes on asphalt". His first feature movie is "Compatriots" (1963), which was also a successful debut of the actress Eva Ras.

His most successful films are the following: "THE BET" 1971 (winner of the Bronze Arena at the Pula Festival, and well received at the Vienna Viennale) and "TRACES OF A BLACK HAIRED GIRL", screened within the official program of the 1972 Berlin Festival.

He made numerous documentaries about biographies of eminent artists (composer Stevan Mokranjac) and sports legends (Moša Marjanovic, Stjepan Bobek, Rajko Mitic, Dragan Dzajic, Dragoslav Šekularac and Radivoje Korac).

PLEASURES OF LIFE

Out of a total of 132 documentaries submitted to the Festival program, only 65 were selected. Almost the same number of films are not going to be screened - 67. A lot?! This poses a question, what were the criteria used for the selection of films to the festival program?

All submitted films were in compliance with the Festival rules, from the longest one, with the duration of two hours and twenty seven minutes, to the shortest, lasting one minute and fifty five seconds. As always, they are maybe similar in theme, but different in treatment, contemporary in problems they deal with, mostly focused on personal destinies, which mirrors both the pleasures and the complexity of life, regardless of where the story takes place, in a village, town, here or abroad. All these films express a personal attitude, style, inclinations and weaknesses of the authors. The circumstances under which they were working are certainly very different, but one feels that they were all made by choice of the authors themselves and shaped according to their own taste and need.

The documentary film has always faced a problem: how to be shown to as many spectators as possible. The television has used it to fill the gap in its program, and practically influenced the duration of the documentary. This circumstance has significantly affected this year's production of documentary film. The majority of the films has adapted to these standards.

The selection of films for this festival was such that, in a limited period of time, we will be offered as good a REVIEW as possible showing those diversities both in themes, treatment, seriousness, ease, overall liberal approach to the making of the film as a fact. This does not mean that the works themselves meet the quality we, viewers expect from the Festival. Therefore another, similar program could be made up of the films not selected to the official program.

Publika, kritika i ziri ce krajem marta steci uvid u zdravstveno stanje ovog festivala i overiti zvanicnu dijagnozu.

Zrno postaje sve linijastije, a linija sve zrnastija.

Kratki igrani film, eksperimentalni film i animirani film imaju ovde ozbiljnu buducnost ako dobiju razumevanje kulturne javnosti i institucija. I, naravno, finansijsku podršku u granicama realnih mgucnosti.

To sazrevanje ce doneti ogromne koristi.

Ziveli!

AN AFFAIR WITH TELEVISION

Fifty years is a lot of time even for a human, let alone a film festival of documentary and short film. Fifty-year-olds need no compliments and flattery anymore - they need wisdom, health and some money for comfortable living.

At the end of March this year, the audience, critics and jury will examine the festival and give an official diagnosis.

As one of the festival selectors, who influenced the selection of short feature, animated and experimental films, I dare say a few words about the health condition of our fifty-year-old, but more from the point of view of a quack, who cares a lot about his patient's health.

The fifty-year-old - the Festival is in rather good health. His life was full of temptations, stress and shocks. He was often hungry and very poor. He was searched and arrested - drafted by force and wounded at various, mostly purposeless battlefronts.

His appearance is unkempt, but he is still on his feet and taking firm steps.

His mental state is chaotic. He's very distressed and affected by the horrors he survived. Sometimes he uses drugs, but sleeps rather well, his conscience is clear.

He is full of rational and irrational fears, sometimes he trembles and quivers, but that's also "film-like and TV-like".

His emotional life in the last decade hasn't been particularly rich - still characterized by an affair with television. This relationship started out of interest and was never promising. But who knows? Fifty-year-olds have to be realistic, love isn't everything.

Who knows what will come as a result of a late paternity between a grain and a line? Grain becomes linier and line becomes grainier.
What is important is that our city is proud of its fifty-year-old.

Let's hope that things will pick up for our birthday boy. There is hope. One can already feel it among the submitted films.

Young people are supporting the Festival.
The most valuable ideas and potential talents come from the faculty, schools and "nursery schools" in Belgrade, Vranje, Cacak, from local and central televisions.

Short feature film, experimental and animated film await a serious future here if they get understanding from the public and institutions. And, of course, if they get financial support within reasonable limits.

Large number of young educated people are waiting for their break and, if they get a chance, to use it, which is the proof of "cultural maturing" of the milieu. This maturing will bring enormous benefit. Everything invested in film and television will pay off a hundredfold on condition it is invested in the best ideas, individuals and groups.

Love for visual expression is growing after so many years of suffering in our country. Young, middle-aged and elderly people are overwhelmed with pain, suffering and misery that needs to get out - through a creative expression deprived of pathos and complaints, through joy and valor.

Let's break those chains and let the sweet visual nectar of a new harvest, a new life in a new century, overwhelm us.
Cheers!
